Cornwall Council’s Hearing Support Team run regular, fun-packed Family Sign Language sessions for pre-school deaf children and their families.
Led by specialists, they are an opportunity to learn, play, chatter and develop in a supportive and informal setting.
Here’s some feedback:
Izzy, parent to four-year-old Oscar: “The family sign group has not only given us the ability to enhance Oscar’s communication, it has allowed us to create amazing friendships and support from families that are going through a similar journey.”
Hannah, parent to two-year-old Theo: “Family sign is one of our favourite times of the week! It is the only time where we can regularly chat to other parents of deaf children and that our deaf children get to meet and play with others like them. We’re also very keen on the biscuits!”
And Katie, parent to two-year-old Alvie: “Family Sign has been such a wonderful experience. I’ve made lifelong friends as have my children. Having the support and time with the group, where we all understand what journey we have had, has been incredible. Luke is great and delivers a fantastic class. I feel lucky we have been a part of it.”
